This Practice Note considers the law on time limits in unfair dismissal cases. It also considers the start date where there is a dismissal with notice. This Practice Note explains which individuals have the right not to be unfairly dismissed. It sets out the qualifying conditions employee status and dismissal after a qualifying period of employment and exclusions such as Crown employees and members of the armed forces, and the circumstances in which diplomatic and state immunity will apply.
