Pleasure Island was an amusement park located in Wakefield, Massachusetts. The park, billed as the " Disneyland of the Northeast ",   was in business from to During its short existence it went through several owners  and was financially handicapped by New England 's relatively short summers. Actors would stage mock gunfights in the Western City or threaten to attack riders on the boat rides. Product placement and branding played a part in some attractions, such as the Grist Mill which featured Pepperidge Farm products  and the Pepsi-Cola Diamond Lil Theater. Its cartoon character mascot for a time was Popeye.

Pleasure Island (Walt Disney World)
To make way for the new offerings, all of the clubs on Pleasure Island closed September 27, Pleasure Island is the night-time entertainment district at Downtown Disney. It consists of themed nightclubs, restaurants and shops. As of August 15, , Pleasure Island extended its "open gate" policy, which means that entry to the island is free — you only have to pay if you wish to enter one of the nightclubs.
Some of the information is based on fact or statements put out by Disney, while other information is based on discussions with cast members, guests, and well known insiders on discussion forums. What follows is my observation of the big picture, which lead to the closing of the clubs at Pleasure Island. The closing of Pleasure Island was a hotly debated topic within Disney and the fan community. I argue the true reason actually goes back to the lack of planning for the West Side.
